With resources of 83,7 million euros, the initiative aims to aim to support projects that address, through collaborative and innovative solutions, the main challenges related to climate change in the Euro-Mediterranean area.

Presidente Todde

"Under the leadership of the Sardinia Region, as Managing Authority of the largest cooperation programme on the external borders of the European Union, the institutional representatives of the 15 participating countries – Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey – worked together to promote a common ambition: to build a resilient Mediterranean in the face of the ongoing climate crisis." declares the president Alessandra Todde.

Presidente Todde: "Al via il nuovo bando Interreg NEXT MED, 83 milioni di euro per sostenere progetti di transizione verde"

In a geographical area that is warming 20% faster than the global average, as highlighted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the call takes an integrated and interdisciplinary approach, moving beyond sectoral approaches to environmental issues. In addition to energy efficiency, circular economy, disaster preparedness and sustainable water management, the call foresees investment in other crucial areas such as decarbonisation of SMEs, green innovation, skills development for climate resilience, adaptation of health systems to climate change and inclusive governance for effective climate policies.

There are two types of projects eligible for the call: thematic, aimed at developing innovative solutions to address specific environmental challenges through pilot approaches, and dedicated to young people, with the aim of encouraging their participation in climate and environment projects.

For the President Todde, "The attention given by the Interreg NEXT MED Programme to young people is an important signal: investing in the new generations means building the foundations for a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable Mediterranean, where the citizens of tomorrow will be the protagonists of a positive change".

Each project proposal must be submitted by a partnership involving at least three eligible countries, including one from the southern shore of the Mediterranean. Approved projects will be eligible for funding ranging from 623.000 to 1,7 million euros, with a contribution from the Programme equal to 89% of eligible costs.
