Sardinia: 1,8 million allocated for psychological support to students and university staff

Six hundred thousand euros per year for three years at the Universities of Cagliari and Sassari will be used to provide emotional, psychological and practical support to university students and staff of the Sardinian universities. The allocation it is provided for by a resolution with which the Board, on the proposal of the Councilor for Public Education, Ilaria Portas, she gave the green light to a counseling and psychological support program run by the island's universities, as part of the free assistance services provided to students and staff.

Thanks to the intervention of specialized professionals, the program will allow to reach important goals. Among these the management of problems related to anxiety disorders, panic attacks and everything that hinders the well-being of students. Psychological support will allow them to overcome relational and adaptation difficulties to the university environment and to enhance their skills. But it will also allow them to support and assist the university staff.

“We are deeply convinced that we are providing a useful and necessary tool for students,” explains Councilor Portas. "Over the years we have understood how essential psychological support is for physical and mental well-being., for the care of their relationship system and also for their academic performance. The life of the student, with the continuous challenges and tests to which he is subjected, is not easy. All this is amplified by the fact that many of them live far from home and their families”.

For counseling and psychological support actions in the Universities the regional Stability Law 2025 has authorized, for each of the years 2025, 2026 and 2027, the expenditure of 600 thousand euros divided between the Universities of Cagliari and Sassari to cover the costs of the service. These resources will be divided between the two universities in relation to their student population, with reference to the academic year 2024-2025. The Universities of Cagliari and Sassari will have to present project proposals for the years 2025, 2026 and 2027 which will have to contain a detailed description of the interventions, the subjects involved, the methods of implementation as well as the related financial estimate.
