The control and discovery of the stolen goods
Last weekend, officers from the Cassino Traffic Police Subsection, despite the heavy traffic of the weekend, they decided to check a Fiat Panda with three people on board.
The three subjects, appeared immediately nervous, they provided imaginative excuses on the reason for their trip, including participation in an alleged TV casting in Rome.
Also suspicious by numerous criminal records of the three, the officers decided to search the vehicle and its occupants.
The intuition turned out to be correct: in a hiding place in the gear lever, a was found bag containing numerous gold objects, while other valuables were hidden on the detainees.
The scam against a 74 year old
Having reasonable grounds to believe that the valuables were proceeds of a scam, the police immediately started the investigations, managing to track down the victim: a elderly woman living in Tivoli (Rome).
According to the complaint filed against the Carabinieri of Castel Madama, the lady had received a phone call from a man who pretended to be Lieutenant of the Carabinieri, who informed her that his son had been arrested for running over a woman in serious condition.
Subsequently, a fake lawyer he had explained to her that, to avoid her son going to prison, she had to pay a sum of money or deliver gold items.
Scared and unaware of the scam, the 74-year-old had delivered as requested.
Recovery of the stolen goods and reporting
The objects found during the search, for a value of over 15.000 euros, corresponded to those reported by the victim, who – although still in shock – rejoiced in disbelief at the get back the effects of a lifetime.
The three men were reported and placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
