Burglar Shot by Security Guard in Rome Dies in Hospital: Security Guard Charged with Murder

The 20-year-old of Romanian origins has died after being shot in the head by a security guard during an attempted robbery in an apartment in Rome, Cassia area. The gang, composed of four people, had entered a house on the first floor looking for money and jewelry. The security guard, returning home, heard suspicious noises and noticed unusual movements in a neighbor's house.

According to the reconstruction, the security guard surprised the thieves while they were trying to break into a safe. After an escape attempt, one of them was hit by a gunshot to the head in the courtyard of the condominium. Rushed to the San Filippo Neri hospital, the young man underwent surgery, but died a few hours later.

The security guard, a 62-year-old man, he had attempted to block the escape of the gang who, according to the investigation, also tried to run him over with a car. The weapon used was seized, and the 62-year-old is now being investigated for murder. Investigators are examining images from video surveillance cameras and testimonies from residents of the condominium to clarify the details of the shooting.

Investigations underway

Investigators are trying to track down the 20-year-old's accomplices, who disappeared after the attempted theft. One of the thieves reportedly escaped by jumping from the balcony, while the others fled down the stairs and into a car. Investigators will also analyze the fingerprints left at the scene to identify the gang members.
