Rome Metro Thefts: 10 People Arrested by Carabinieri
Thanks to an intense control activity conducted by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Rome and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office, it was possible arrest 10 people in flagrante delicto, all seriously suspected of aggravated theft. The Carabinieri have intensified checks, in particular, in places with the greatest tourist influx, such as the A metro line, which connects the main points of interest in the capital.
Seven people, including five women, were arrested red-handed by the Carabinieri of Rome Parioli Station, while stealing wallets and smartphones from the bags and pockets of tourists and travellers as they boarded trains, blending in with the crowd and taking advantage of the rapid closing of the doors with consequent immediate departure.
Once the doors were closed, the victims only realized the theft after the train had departed, while the suspects remained on the platform waiting for the next train. In the same way, two other people were arrested by the Carabinieri of the Rome Prati Station, while another person was arrested by the Carabinieri of the Rome Flaminia Station. All the theft victims filed a formal complaint and the arrests were all validated.
