Rome, Memorandum of Understanding signed between CONI Permanent Observatory for Safeguarding Policies and OSCAD

Yesterday afternoon, at the headquarters of the Italian National Olympic Committee, in the presence of President Giovanni Malagò, the memorandum of understanding was signed between the CONI Permanent Observatory for Safeguarding Policies and OSCAD, Observatory for Security Against Discriminatory Acts of the Department of Public Security – Ministry of the Interior.

The agreement, which will be valid for two years, aims to activate forms of collaboration between the two organizations to carry out, on the national territory, awareness-raising activities for the prevention of all forms of abuse, violence and discrimination in sport, inspired by the principles of equality and legality.

Training and information campaigns and initiatives will also be conducted to encourage sport as a tool for social inclusion., while the episodes worthy of attention will be monitored in order to evaluate the opportunity to implement interventions that make the prevention work more effective.

The agreement was signed by Prosecutor Adelchi D'Ippolito, President of the body created within CONI, and Prefect Raffaele Grassi, Deputy Chief of Police – Central Director of the Criminal Police and President of OSCAD.

"There should be no discrimination in sport. Sport should be a transparent and inclusive environment“. These are the words of the Attorney D'Ippolito who explain the objectives to which the protocol aims, highlighting the need, in sport, to win while respecting the rules, people and athletes.

Prefect Raffaele Grassi, instead, underlined that thanks to the agreement "the police force was given the opportunity to enter the house of sport, to jointly carry out projects inspired by the principles of legality and equality".

Finally, CONI President Giovanni Malagò stressed the importance of collaboration between the world of sport and the police force, especially with regards to the values ​​to be transmitted to the younger generations.

With the signing of the protocol, a further step forward is made with respect to the protection of minors, the prevention of harassment and gender violence and any other condition of discrimination, including those related to ethnicity, religion, personal beliefs, disability, age and sexual orientation.
