It is a kind of signal, a method of communicating that the house is empty and it is possible to enter undisturbed. It is the technique of the "survey with glue threads", which burglars spread on the locks of doors and gates, then go away and return in the following days: if the glue dries, and is not removed, the "all clear" is given.
With this modus operandi, a Georgian couple had their eye on some houses located inside a complex on via Franco Sacchetti. This is what was reconstructed by the agents of the State Police of the Flaminio police station after, The other night, just at the time of the redde rationem, a slight noise upset the plans of the two thieves.
It was two State Police officers off duty who intercepted their suspicious movements. When, while returning home after an evening spent together, they heard someone tinkering near the door of the building, they went back to understand what was happening. Lying in a corner, they asked for the help of a car radio from the Flaminio police station, where they work. After a few minutes, the two burglars ended up in handcuffs, caught red-handed by the police before they could carry out their criminal plan.
A plan that was reconstructed point by point by the police thanks also to the frames extracted from the video surveillance system, which captured the two accomplices in the various phases of the "on-site inspections" they carried out in the previous days.
The immediate aftermath, following the house search of the two accomplices, they then allowed the police to find, in addition to adulterous keys and burglary tools, a series of valuable objects from other thefts. Among these, a laptop stolen during New Year's Eve, which was returned to the owner along with other objects she recognized as being among those stolen from her.
At the end of the investigations, the two Georgians – a 23-year-old and a 34-year-old – were arrested for the crime of attempted burglary.
The Prosecutor's Office then requested and obtained, from the Judge for Preliminary Investigations, the validation of the actions of the State Police. The investigators of the Flaminio police station are now working to reconstruct the origin of the seized valuables.
