Rome, apartment burglaries: 4 people arrested, including the “Georgian doorman”
Investigators from the Rome Police Headquarters, also through the study and monitoring of “heat maps”, developed by'UPGSP (The General Prevention and Public Relief Office), through the georeferencing system of crimes, which provides an indication of the areas most affected by a given phenomenon, are managed to stop 4 other apartment burglars, which add to the numerous recent arrests.
- agents from the VII San Giovanni District intervened in via Acaia following a report of presence of people inside an apartment. Once on site, they caught two men red-handed inside the reported house, finding them in possession of various burglary tools. The two, a 56-year-old and a 60-year-old, both Italian, they were also found in possession of 2 gold brooches, 3 silver watches, subsequently recognized by the entitled person. Therefore, they were arrested for attempted aggravated robbery.
State Police officers of the XV Ponte Milvio District, authors of the recent arrests for receiving stolen goods from Georgians, in via Cartesio, they checked a suspicious man, ascertaining that he was wanted as he was subject to an execution order for imprisonment issued by the Attorney General's Office at the Court of Appeal of Rome on 9 June 2023, having to serve a prison sentence of 2 years 7 months and 16 days for the crime of attempted aggravated theft committed in Rome in May 2022.
"I don't steal, I don't enter houses and I'm not interested in jewels and valuables".
This is what the 50-year-old Georgian would have said to the State Police officers of the Vescovio police station when they stopped him, but in reality the information in the investigators' possession contains much more. Indeed it is to him that apartment thieves in the capital turn to obtain the key in a few days, for generous rewards, which allows them to to gain extremely easy access to Roman homes in order to burgle them.
It was following a targeted report by investigators, who had been on his trail for some time, that put an end to the Georgian's 'career'.
In fact, after a series of stalking, during which the agents of the Vescovio police station studied the foreigner's moves and habits, on Saturday, at the end of a stakeout service, they intervened and blocked him.
It was just after 13.00pm when i police officers noticed the suspect parking his vehicle in the African neighborhood area. Immediately afterwards, with his backpack on his shoulders, he got out and walked with a quick and decisive step towards a building in Viale Libia.
The 50enne, arriving in front of a door, after looking around cautiously, he took a metal object out of his pocket – probably an adulterous key -, he opened it by accessing the inside.
Immediate then the intervention of the officers who immediately stopped and searched him, checking the contents of the backpack he was carrying, where they found it a powerful electric grinder, lock picks, 'European' type key blades and other specific tools.
Identified as a 50 year old Georgian man, the agents therefore have also searched his home where they found substantial material enclosed in two suitcases, i.e. very modern equipment for duplicating keys, capable of opening the most popular and sophisticated locks on the market.
Then the man, that includes several aliases, Was conducted in the offices of the Vescovio police station and subsequently in those of the Scientific Police for further verification.
And it was precisely following these checks that the officers managed to trace his true identity and discover that he was the recipient of a precautionary custody order in prison for the crime of aggravated robbery. In fact, the man turned out to be the perpetrator of an aggravated robbery committed in the Guidonia Montecelio area last April 23rd.
The investigations have been completed the man was reported for possession of burglary tools and attempted home invasion and then sent to prison in execution of the precautionary custody order issued by the Judicial Authority.
