Ladispoli (Rome), Baby Medellin operation: a man and a woman arrested for drug possession and dealing

In recent days, the agents of the State Police of the Ladispoli Commissariat have carried out a precautionary order issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Civitavecchia against a woman and a man held responsible for possession and dealing of narcotic substances, in competition with each other, as well as the preventive seizure aimed at confiscation of an apartment purchased by the two investigated with the money from the illicit activity.

The operation, called “Baby Medellin“, started in October 2022 and completed in January 2023, originated from some seizures of narcotic substances such as Hashish, including against minors, carried out by agents as early as July 2022.

Since the first months in which the Ladispoli Police Department was established, the staff of the Judicial Police Team became aware of the fact that many of the young people residing in the towns of Ladispoli and Cerveteri they purchased narcotic substances from a 20-year-old girl who presented himself on social media under the pseudonym of “Sofia Medellin” (with reference to the well-known Colombian city renowned as the nerve center of drug trafficking in the 70s and 80s), who, in collaboration with her 24-year-old boyfriend of Romanian origins, he was monopolizing the hashish buying and selling market in his own favor retail, selling drugs to numerous customers, including several minors.

In the first days of October 2022, during telephone wiretapping activity, it was drug dealing activity is widely demonstrated of narcotic substances, in particular hashish, carried out by the couple who, in certain circumstances, made use of the collaboration of third parties.

During the investigative activity, the Agents carried out several checks and seizures of quantities of drugs found in the possession of subjects who, shortly before, had purchased them from the couple. During the course of the investigation, various quantities of narcotic substances such as hashish were seized, sometimes large and in total no. were registered. 216 buyers of narcotics, among whom no. were identified. 38 minors.

In December 2023, during the investigation, investigators discovered that the couple had purchased an apartment in a small town in Lazio, using cash from their illicit activity. The Judicial Authority of the Civitavecchia Prosecutor's Office, having received irrefutable sources of evidence has ordered the preventive seizure aimed at confiscating the property which was the subject of the illicit sale which, currently, is also rented without a regular contract to non-EU citizens.

Following the investigations carried out by the Judicial Police team other subjects were reported who in some circumstances collaborated with the couple in the sale of the substances, not only procuring customers but also acting as lookouts in order to warn them of the possible arrival or passage of police cars.

In any case, all the suspects are to be considered presumed innocent, in consideration of the current phase of the proceedings, i.e. that of the preliminary investigations, until a definitive finding of guilt with an irrevocable sentence.
