In the afternoon of 4 MarchAt the 'Fiumicino airport, Was handed over to the Italian Authorities, with a flight from Madrid, Salvatore Vespertino, the 38 year old Italian anarchist militant, fugitive since July 2023, arrested on February 15th in Madrid by the Spanish National Police, pursuant to an EAW (European arrest warrant) issued on the basis of a detention order issued by the Attorney General's Office at the Court of Appeal of Florence.
The fugitive, following the judicial investigation called "Panic” conducted by investigators of the State Police, coordinated by DDA of the Public Prosecutor's Office Florence, had been definitively sentenced by the Court of Cassation to 8 years in prison, for the crime of manufacture, detention e explosive device port, as it is held responsible for theattack on the “Il Bargello” bookstore – attributable to the far-right movement “Casapound” – committed in Florence on the night of 1 January 2017, following which a State Police bomb disposal expert reported very serious injuries in the attempt to defuse the device placed on site.
Evening has been associated with the Rebibbia district house for the expiation of a total residual sentence equal to 5 years, 6 months and 1 day of imprisonment (considering the subtraction of the period suffered in execution of the precautionary custody) for the crimes of illegal carrying of weapons, very serious personal injuries e damage.
The delivery procedures involved the personnel of the Service for the International Police Cooperationand Central Directorate of Prevention Policeand Digos of Florence and Polaria of Fiumicino.
Vespertino had been arrested by the Spanish National Police at 03.00 on February 15th, at Vallecas (Madrid), district of the city centre of the Spanish capital.
Since the first days of his fugitive status, an investigative group was formed by personnel from the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police and the Digos of Florence who, on behalf of the Florence Public Prosecutor's Office, started complex investigations and deployed a specific device for the subject search, focusing on the group of associates and the already known connections maintained by the same abroad (Spain, France, Switzerland, Greece); reason why the The police forces of these countries were all involved with several requests for international cooperation constantly renewed during this year and a half of hiding, effectively allowing the capture of Vespertino.
Salvatore Vespertino had been identified as responsible for the bomb attack thanks to a DNA trace left on the device and detected following a meticulous and painstaking analysis of the Scientific Police, corroborated by the elements that emerged following intense investigative work by the Florentine Digos and the staff of the Central Directorate of Prevention Police, which then withstood all levels of judicial scrutiny.
