Rome: State Police rescue a young woman who was a victim of human trafficking thanks to a tip from London.

It started from London the cry for help that allowed the State Police to rescue a young Romanian woman who had come to Italy convinced by her partner that she would have a better future and instead – according to the investigations – destined for sexual exploitation.

The man, a fifty-year-old compatriot, already known for specific precedents, was stopped by the Rome Flying Squad in the district of Tor Bella Monaco.

The case starts from a vague reporting received at Service for International Police Cooperation, which spoke of a woman in grave danger presumably in the capital.

The investigators of Flying Squad, after a quick identification work, they managed to give a face to the young woman and reconstruct their movements in the preceding hours.

After long stakeouts in the eastern outskirts of Rome, the agents intercepted her just as she was being pushed with force from the man toward the door of a building. It was at that moment that the decisive intervention took place.

The victim's testimony: from a promise of love to a nightmare

Listened to in a protected environment, the girl told her story.

In Romania she had met the man with whom she had fallen in love. Convinced by her partner, she had followed him to Italy with the prospect of a stable relationship and a better future.

Once she arrived in Rome, the promise turned into a nightmare: the man allegedly forced her into prostitution, even pointing out a tariff and the area in which it was to operate.

Subjugated and frightened, the young woman pretended to consent. In a rare moment of solitude, she managed to send a message for help to her ex-husband resident in the UK, who, sensing the gravity of the situation, immediately alerted the British authorities.

From there, within minutes, the international police cooperation circuit, which allowed the woman to be located.

The girl had attempted to escape, but was caught shortly after tracked down and threatened with death by her tormentor.

The officers intervened at the exact moment he was dragging her home.

Once the investigative elements were crystallized, the fifty-year-old was arrested on suspicion of crime and transferred to the prison of Rebibbia.

He is currently seriously suspected of the crimes of: gender-based violence, human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, aiding, abetting, inducing, and exploiting prostitution.

Il GIP validated the arrest.
