Rome, Esquilino: Arrests for pickpocketing and tight police controls in squares, tourists, and accommodation facilities.

Regular pickpocketer, stationed in the gardens of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II or active in an itinerant form in the neighbourhood, “borderline” subjects and accommodation managers reluctant to apply the sector regulations: these are the portraits of the people who have ended up in the sights of the State Police during the checks carried out in the Esquiline area in the afternoon and evening yesterday.

Among the profiles that emerged during the operations, those of stand out: two specialists of the “light touch”, both arrested red-handed by the agents of Esquilino Police Station.

• The first, 41 year old Moroccan, was active regularly in the gardens of Piazza Vittorio. He was arrested at the exact moment in which, after approaching two young people lying on the lawn, he a cell phone was snatched before attempting to escape. The officers, who were keeping him under surveillance, surrounded and stopped him.
• The second one, 42 year old Algerian, operated in an itinerant form in the neighborhood. After having tailed three elderly tourists near the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, tried to act, but was immediately stopped and arrested by the officers who followed his movements.

The handcuffs were also snapped on for a 19 year old Romanian, author of a violent attack on healthcare workers of the Monterotondo emergency room, which occurred less than 48 hours earlier. In a state of rage, he had damaged the premises and set off a fire extinguisher. Found in state of intoxication in via Giolitti, he was arrested for violence against a public official, interruption of public service, defacement and damage.

During the operation they were dozens of people identified: 19 foreigners they were accompanied to theImmigration office for investigations, with three expulsions already carried out and detention at the CPR of Ponte Galeria.

On the front of irregularities in the hospitality sector, the Police have identified a “ghost” structure in Via Nino BixioThe manager had not communicated the presence of guests for three consecutive days through the portal “Web Hosts”. The Ghost House will be closed for five days.

THEmultitasking approach of the Rome Police Headquarters is part of a strategy to combat widespread illegality and urban decay, planned at the time of Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, with interventions that will be replicated daily also in other sensitive areas of the Capital.
