Reggio Emilia, the new atrium of the Mediopadana High Speed ​​station inaugurated

With an investment of 5 million euros, the new entrance improves access to the Mediopadana High Speed ​​station and enriches services for travellers, while work continues to create a service hub with an investment of 8 million euros.

Reggio Emilia, the new atrium of the Mediopadana High Speed ​​station has been inaugurated.

In Reggio Emilia, the Mediopadana high-speed station is enriched with a new entrance on the east side. Featuring a modern vertical garden, escalators and elevators, the new atrium also allows direct access from the newly built car park, improving access for travellers.

The new atrium was inaugurated yesterday morning, just over two years after the start of the works, in the presence of the regional councillor, Alessio Mammi (representing the acting president, Irene Priolo), the mayor of Reggio Emilia, Marco Massari, and the head of Engineering and Station Investments of the Stations Directorate of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Italiane Group), Antonello Martino.

The intervention, built by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Italiane Group) with an investment of 5 million euros, is part of the works planned for the enhancement of the station, thanks to the program agreement signed between Rfi and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia in July 2020. Work is also continuing on the railway underpass that will host new services also available to the territory. The project involves an investment of approximately 8 million euros and is part of a further program agreement signed two years ago between the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Municipality of Reggio Emilia and RFI.

"The Mediopadana, with its 1,6 million passengers per year, is a point of reference that goes well beyond the provincial borders– they say regional councilors Andrea Corsini (Transport and Infrastructure) and Alessio Mammi (Agriculture)-. Modern and well-designed structures like this one represent a gateway to the territory and its excellences. And they are fully part of the strategy of the Region, which has been strongly committed for years to strengthening local public transport and making rail transport increasingly attractive and functional. The developments of the Mediopadana station, with improved access and new services- conclude-, they go in this direction with the aim of making the use of collective transport comfortable and competitive compared to private transport, for better air quality and liveability in our cities".

Interventions in the area of ​​the railway viaduct they are aimed at creating a hub of services for travellers and for the territory, with the creation of spaces dedicated to bars, restaurants, pharmacies and car rentals, as well as exhibition areas to promote local excellence.
