Gioia Tauro: 80 kg of marijuana discovered hidden underground, 15 kg of fireworks inside a commercial activity and a secret room

The military personnel of the Gioia Tauro Company, with the valuable support of the Helicopter Squadron "Calabria" and the Canine Units of Vibo Valentia, have achieved an important operation against drug trafficking and the illicit possession of explosive material, leading to the arrest of one individual and the reporting of another.

During a targeted search, the Carabinieri found almost 80 kg of marijuana, divided into 70 bags, skillfully hidden in a barrel buried about a meter deep on land attributable to him. An operation that allowed the dismantling of an important drug dealing channel in the area. The arrested man was immediately taken to the Palmi (RC) prison.

But the operation did not stop there: during the same activity, another individual was reported for illicit possession of pyrotechnic material.

The military discovered, inside a commercial activity attributable to him, 23 boxes containing fireworks, for a total weight of about 15 kg. But the real surprise was found inside his home: a secret room, hidden behind a bathroom wall and accessible only by moving some tiles and an ingenious mechanism that allowed the room to be sealed from the inside.

An operation that confirms the determination of the police forces in the fight against organized crime and the illicit trafficking of dangerous substances and materials. The activity of the Arma is part of a broader context of fighting crime that has long seen the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria engaged in actions to control and repress drug trafficking.
