Platì: Underground bunker with indoor marijuana grow discovered: father and son charged.

An underground bunker, cleverly hidden under a stable immersed in the thick vegetation of the Aspromonte, has been transformed into a indoor marijuana greenhouse.

This is the discovery made by the Carabinieri of the Platì Station, together with the military of the Helicopter Squadron Hunters “Calabria” and 14th Battalion "Calabria", during a specific extraordinary territorial control service aimed at combating the production of narcotic substances.

Two men, father and son, were reported at liberty as they were held responsible for the construction and management of the bunker, transformed into a real underground cannabis cultivation laboratory, equipped to ensure continuous and difficult-to-detect production.

The investigation originated from meticulous observation. During a patrol in a particularly inaccessible rural area, the military noticed a suspicious electrical cable which was lost among the vegetation.

Following him for a few hundred meters, they came across an apparently disused agricultural shed. Behind a tilting panel hidden and operated by a system of counterweights, it opened access to a perfectly camouflaged underground bunker.

Inside the building the Carabinieri found a marijuana plantation with plants between 70 and 110 centimetres high, illuminated by a complex electrical system and ventilated by a complex ventilation system.

The whole thing was powered by a illegal connection to the electricity grid, created to constantly support the cultivation activity.

The bunker, built illegally and equipped with transformers, fans and lamps designed to recreate the typical conditions of professional greenhouses, it represented a sophisticated example of illegal cultivation well hidden and far from any possibility of accidental sighting.

The operation is part of a broader strategy to combat drug trafficking carried out by the Carabinieri of the Locri Company, engaged in the constant monitoring of the most inaccessible areas of Aspromonte.

The military's thorough knowledge of the territory and operational experience continue to be fundamental tools in countering illegal activities that exploit the region's environmental complexity.
