The State Police of Reggio Calabria has executed an order for the application of precautionary custody in prison issued by the GIP of the Court of Reggio Calabria, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, against three young men from Reggio Calabria who are seriously suspected of conspiracy to commit the crimes of attempted murder and the illegal possession and carrying of firearms in a public place, both crimes aggravated by mafia methods.

The investigations were immediately started by the Public Prosecutor's Office, and handled by the Homicide Section of the Flying Squad, arise from the events that occurred on July 15th of last year, when a man was seriously injured by rifle shots, right in the city centre.

According to what emerged from the investigations, that evening, following an argument caused by the fire of a car parked near the suspects' home, the person responsible for the fire had been beaten up with a baseball bat, for having operated without authorization in the area under the control of the three youths, two of whom were brothers, and for having disturbed their mother's rest.

Not satisfied, the three men, after having recovered a rifle in the Pellaro area, had positioned themselves near their home waiting for the return of the unfortunate man who, as soon as he approached, was reached by three rifle shots to the abdomen and legs exploded by one of the three young people with the sole purpose of claim dominance and control over the area they belong to, evoking the mafia capacity of a well-known 'ndrina from the southern area of ​​Reggio Calabria.

Due to the serious injuries sustained, The victim suffered a total amputation of his right lower limb.

One of the suspects was already in custody as he was arrested on suspicion of crime on November 4th for the possession of two sawed-off shotguns, pistols with erased serial numbers and numerous rounds of ammunition.
