The Carabinieri continue their efforts to combat the illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. In the last few days, an operation conducted by the soldiers of the Melito Porto Salvo Company, with the support of the “Calabria” Helicopter Hunter Squadron and the Vibo Valentia Dog Unit, led to the referral of three people and the seizure of a significant arsenal hidden in agricultural land and homes.

In the first intervention, The Carabinieri have reported a 68-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman, both residents of Melito Porto Salvo, for illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. During the searches, in a PVC pipe buried in an agricultural land attributable to the man, were found 21 12 gauge shotshells. On a piece of land owned by the woman, instead, they were hidden in a cellophane bag a revolver pistol cal. 7.65 with four cartridges, a Remington 66 nylon rifle cal. 22 with 14 cartridges, and a double-barreled cal. 12 shotgun disassembled into three parts with erased serial number.

In a second operation, the military carried out a check in the home of a 65-year-old man from Meliá, holder of a gun license. The inspection revealed the presence of a never reported Beretta 12 gauge shotgun and the absence of another regularly registered but no longer traceable weapon. The man was reported for illegal possession and failure to store weapons. Following the check, two shotguns, an air rifle and ten single-ball 12 gauge cartridges were seized.

All the weapons and ammunition found have been seized, while the proceedings are in the preliminary investigation phase.

The operation is part of a broader strategy to combat the illegal possession of weapons in the province of Reggio Calabria, a particularly sensitive area where the Carabinieri's widespread control of the territory represents a pillar of security.
