Double homicide of two newborns in Reggio Calabria: young mother under house arrest with electronic tag.

A family tragedy has once again shocked Reggio Calabria. The discovery of the bodies and the beginning of the investigations

The case had exploded in July of last year, when i parents of the young girl had found inside a closet in their home, located in the fraction of Pellaro, lifeless bodies of two newborns, wrapped in a blanket.
A shocking discovery that immediately prompted the Prosecutor's Office to open a murder investigation.

The investigators of the Flying Squad immediately started investigations by cross-referencing CCTV footage, biological tests e family testimonies, precisely reconstructing the hours in which the drama took place.

From the cameras placed in the area, it emerged that the young woman was alone at home between 19:00 PM and 8:30 PM on July 20, 2024, time which coincides with the presumed time of birth and death of newborns.

Biological tests: the two newborns were alive at birth

A decisive response came from the medico-legal and genetic tests conducted on the biological material seized at the Messina Polyclinic, where the woman was subsequently hospitalized for a uterine curettage surgery.
The analyses have established that the two newborns were the biological children of the suspect, born Vivi and deceased for suffocation immediately after giving birth.

The woman's behavior and the testimonies of her family members

During the investigation, the young woman's family members were heard, and the results were unaware of what happened within the home walls.
From their statements it emerged that, a few days before the discovery, the woman had been hospitalised in Great Metropolitan Hospital of Reggio Calabria due to a heavy haemorrhage. When asked for explanations, the girl had only spoken of a general malaise, denying categorically of being pregnant or having given birth.

The circumstantial evidence was further strengthened by themessage analysis exchanged between the woman and the fiance, Now investigated for aiding and abetting.

According to what was reconstructed by the investigators, the two would have lived a similar situation three years ago, characterized by strong disagreements on the decision whether or not to keep the child. The woman would have given birth in August 2022, suppressing the newborn and hiding his body, never found.

The new searches and the search for further evidence

During today's operation, the officers of the Flying Squad of Reggio Calabria, with the support of molecular canine units and the use of a ground penetrating radar, they executed thorough searches in the homes of the woman and her partner, as well as in the lands and gardens owned by them or their family members.

The goal is to find any human remains attributable to the newborn who, according to investigative hypotheses, was born and aborted in 2022.
The operations, still in progress, aim to complete the evidentiary framework and to definitively clarify the sequence of tragic events.

A serious but not yet definitive circumstantial framework

The Reggio Calabria Public Prosecutor's Office has underlined that, despite the presence of serious indications of guilt, it is valid for the accused principle of innocence until a final conviction.
The investigations are continuing to ascertain the full dynamics of the facts and any possible concurrent responsibilities of other subjects.
