Calabria: A massive marijuana grow-op discovered and destroyed in Cardeto, Italy. One man arrested.

An aerial reconnaissance and an patient stakeout allowed the Carabinieri of the Cardeto Station, assisted by their colleagues from the Helicopter Squadron Hunters “Calabria”, to unmask a hidden marijuana cultivation among the thick vegetation of the Reggio mountains.

The operation began when, flying over an impervious area of the Cardeto territory, the military spotted a expanse of suspicious plants on the slopes of a hill. Since then, a territorial control service, during which a man was caught actively cultivating, intent on prune the plants.

They were counted on site 300 fully flowering cannabis plants, ready to be harvested. An amount that, once processed, could have generated a huge profit in the illicit drug market.

After sampling the material, the entire plantation was destroyed, while man, at the end of the ritual formalities, he was transferred to the Arghillà prison.

The operation confirms theThe Carabinieri are constantly vigilant in combating drug cultivation and trafficking., a phenomenon that often finds fertile ground in the most remote and difficult-to-reach areas of the Calabrian hinterland.
