Calabria: Carabinieri discover hidden cannabis "jungle" and arsenal

A veritable “green jungle” cultivated among the hidden terraces of the mountains, and a house transformed into a weapons and drug depot. This is the dual scenario in which the Carabinieri of the Stilo and Monasterace stations intervened, with the support of the "Cacciatori Calabria" helicopter squadron, during a wide-ranging operation between the municipalities of Stilo and Monasterace, in the Reggio Calabria area.

In the mountainous territory of Stylus, in the locality “Quote Roseto”, The military located a cannabis plantation with almost 850 bushes, of varying heights and in full vegetative growth. The plants, grown on unfenced and difficult-to-access land, were cleverly hidden by the thick vegetation, a clear sign of a well-structured organization aimed at large-scale drug production.

A few steps away, inside an abandoned farmhouse, they were Over a kilo of dried marijuana, tools for processing and growing the drug, and a 12-gauge shotgun shell were found. After sampling, the entire plantation was destroyed on site, while the material found was seized.

A monasterace, instead, the searches led to the discovery of a semi-automatic pistol with erased serial number, complete with magazine, stored inside a cloth, together with over 300 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, some of which were classified as war ammunition. In the same context, also found were small quantities of marijuana, precision weighing equipment and seeds attributable to cannabis, also seized.
