Pesaro: assault at the Cappuccini underpass, appeal to the government for more controls.
La Local Police has already activated the procedures needed to recover the footage from the 5 cameras present in the affected section (installed last July), to be made available for investigations.
«We need to checks and certain penalties for those who commit crimes and that they are defined by the central government. No more tolerance or immediate releases for those who commit similar crimes. The Station, the Monument of the Resistance and the Miralfiore Park are difficult areas which we must protect with every possible effort. For this reason we ask for the constant presence of the police, which however must also be given the necessary tools for the safety of the entire city, in the interest of the citizens".
This is the appeal launched by the mayor of Pesaro Andrea Biancani and the Security Councillor Sara Mengucci to the central government, in the face of theattack occurred on the night of January 1st against Stephen Grazioli, a man from Pesaro who was cycling home after his work shift.
«Maximum solidarity with Grazioli and compliments for how he faced the danger – continued Biancani and Mengucci –. He didn't react, avoiding making the situation worse because in these cases being a hero is useless. Stefano is a friend – says Biancani –, I also had the opportunity to talk to us personally and to express my utmost closeness to him."
The Local Police are already working to recover the footage of the 5 security cameras which had been installed by the new municipal administration on the affected stretch just last July.
«But we are convinced that something must change in the state laws which, as currently set up, leave us and the police with our hands tied, even though the latter patrol the entire territory on a daily basis, often seeing their own efforts thwarted – they point out -. These individuals are caught and released within a few days., thus returning to crime always in the same areas. It is necessary that there are certain penalties, otherwise we will never be able to solve the problem that has become serious throughout Italy and risks, instead, affecting those who truly want to build a new life in our city, respecting the rules".
The station is currently undergoing the following redevelopment works and the Cappuccini underpass was renovated and opened last April: «We have done everything possible to give back to the city some places beautiful, illuminated and safe. We believe in the concept of improving and requalifying even the most difficult areas, but that alone is not enough. Concrete actions are needed in favor of local authorities for the safety of citizens".
Then the distinction: «The three attackers were all non-EU, but it is good to clarify: there are people who flee their countries because of wars because they have nothing to live on, willing to integrate in a new context and that need to be helped with solidarity policies and social inclusion, which we are committed to on a daily basis. The other side of the coin, however, is evident. Many other people do not have the same intentions and they end up dealing drugs and committing crimes in the most critical areas of the city, and we cannot be tolerant of them."
The same intransigence also applies to those who fuel the vicious circle of drug dealing, which «if it continues to exist it is above all due to the fault of the buyers; in most cases we are talking about 'white collar' – Biancani underlined –, therefore Italian men and women and, in our case, from Pesaro, who are equally guilty of the situation that has been created».
Last June the meeting took place Committee for Public Order and Safety, chaired by the prefect Emanuela Saveria Greco, where Mayor Biancani himself had reiterated «the need to have clearer rules, which allow for certain measures, because with the current ones it has been recognized that it is difficult to identify adequate measures, especially in the presence of irregular people on the territory. At the same time, to increase the control actions already underway, the help of the dog service in the areas most at risk."
Pesaro, despite some episodes, "remains a safe city - Biancani and Mengucci conclude - but we must still maintain high attention towards these situations that cannot be underestimated. Ours is a city where, fortunately, there is also excellent collaboration between the administration, prefecture and police forces. A bond that allows us to limit similar situations as much as possible with the aim of giving maximum freedom for citizens – men and women – in being able to walk and pass through every corner of the city».
