Pesaro. Unveiled on the morning of Saturday 27 April the Sculpture of Pavarotti together with his daughters Giuliana and Cristina.
The Italian capital of culture met in front of the Rossini Theater for the unveiling of the work created by Maestro Poli and dedicated "to the world artist beloved by his second city"
His daughters Giuliana and Cristina, his wife Nicoletta Mantovani, the director and set designer Pier Luigi Pizzi. The figures dearest to Maestro Luciano Pavarotti were present, in Piazzale Lazzarini, for the unveiling ceremony of the bronze sculpture, which the Capital dedicated to "its" Luciano Pavarotti, "in the extraordinary year of Pesaro 2024".
"A gift to the city and, above all, a tribute to Luciano Pavarotti – Matteo Ricci, mayor of Pesaro and Daniele Vimini, deputy mayor and councilor for Beauty, explain – extraordinary artist never forgotten, honorary citizen of Pesaro that we decided to honor with a bronze sculpture of high value".
From a height of 192cm, resting on a marble base, the bronze work is made with the lost wax casting technique, by Albano Poli. It was presented by Andrea Mezzetti, artistic assistant to Maestro Poli, who spoke during the event promoted by Pesaro 2024 and attended by Giuliana and Cristina Pavarotti (the tenor's daughters; the mayor and deputy mayor were at their side during the placing of the Maestro's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2022), Nicoletta Mantovani (wife and president of the Pavarotti Foundation with which the city has established an intense bond), the director and set designer Pier Luigi Pizzi, protagonist of the ROF for 40 years. A Festival that owes a lot to Pavarotti. It was he who inaugurated the renovated Teatro Rossini in April 1980 after 14 years of closure, an anniversary that gave further impetus to a project, that of a Rossini festival in Pesaro, which saw the light a few months later. It was he again, in 1986, who enchanted the ROF audience with a historic concert in Piazza del Popolo. And finally, in 1996, it was he who inaugurated the current Vitrifrigo Arena, in which the Rossini Opera Festival has staged some of its latest major successes.
"Pesaro, UNESCO Creative City of Music and Italian Capital of Culture 2024 – remember the mayor and deputy mayor – owes a lot to the Maestro who here has woven human, supportive and creative bonds. Especially in his villa immersed in 'The nature of culture' that has shaped Pesaro 2024. A city that, for the Maestro was 'the place of happiness' and a creative residence where he produced his singing capable of moving audiences in theaters all over the world".
The work was placed in Piazzale Lazzarini, at the intersection with Via Curiel, “so that he can greet and welcome with his presence the people of Pesaro and visitors who, arriving from via Branca, enter the square, almost as if to invite them to the theatre” they add Ricci and Vimini.
And it was the Rossini that hosted, after the statue ceremony, at 21 pm, the delivery of the Pesaro Music Awards 2024, an award created by the Rossini Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pesaro and the support of OSR Xanitalia "for those excellent personalities in the music sector, who have or have had contacts and ties with the city of Pesaro". Receiving the recognition, in the fifth edition of the Awards, will be: Pier Luigi Pizzi, director, set designer, costume designer, artistic director and writer linked to Pesaro – which awarded him honorary citizenship in 2022 – by numerous productions curated for the Rossini Opera Festival; ItaliaFestival, the multidisciplinary association formed that today represents 43 Italian festivals and 4 festival networks, which operate in the fields of music, theater, performing arts and dance, literature; the “tenor par excellence”, the award was collected by his wife Nicoletta Mantovani, president of the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation. The ceremony was included in the concert of the G. Rossini Symphony Orchestra, led by the resident conductor, M° Noris Borgogelli. The musical program included a tribute to Giacomo Puccini, whose death will be celebrated in 2024.
ALBANO POLI BIOGRAPHY
Albano Poli was born in Verona on August 2, 1935. After completing his studies at the art school in Verona, he began working as a glassmaker in a small art workshop in a prestigious historic building in the centre of Verona. At first he restored or reproduced church windows and gradually over the years, combining manual skill with creative genius, he designed and designed stained glass windows with his own style. More than the defined forms, in his stained glass windows play the chromatic compositions and the allusive hint to communicate a precise message by fitting harmoniously into the context in which they are placed. The creativity of Maestro Poli soon leads him to experiment with new artistic expressions surrounding himself with professionals and artisans who grow together with him with the same sensitivity. His PROGETTO ARTE POLI laboratory is today an atelier inspired by the ancient Renaissance workshops where different works are designed and created: not only stained glass windows but also mosaics, frescoes, works in bronze, wood, stone and metal. Each of them can be said to be the result of a synthesis between the artist and the craftsman who find themselves in him. His is an art in which creativity, ideas, research and ancient technique coexist in a perfect symbiosis where each element intertwines with the other to draw new vital energy. In his long career, however, Albano Poli never abandoned the restoration activity. Even in this field Albano Poli does not "limit himself" and delves into techniques and methods, acquiring experience to deal with interventions on different works and which has allowed him to obtain SOA certification in the OS2, OG2, OS6 categories.
