The Carabinieri of the Palermo Centro Station, with the decisive contribution of the Anti-adulteration and Health Unit, the Labor Inspectorate Unit, the Palermo Villagrazia Dog Unit, as well as the Municipal Police personnel, have carried out an extraordinary service of territorial control in the neighborhoods considered the heart of Palermo's nightlife, aimed at combating widespread illegality and with particular attention also to verifying the regularity in terms of health and safety protection in the workplace, as well as compliance with current legislation regarding the trade and supply of food and beverages.
During the service, the Carabinieri reported a 63-year-old man from Palermo at large for illegal possession of narcotics.
The presence of the man did not escape the nose of the drug-sniffing dog "Ron" who reported to the military the 63-year-old sitting inside his car. The check was immediately started and allowed to find in the man's possession 0,75 grams of cocaine and over 50 grams of marijuana.
During the activity, several checks were carried out, with almost 30 people identified; 4 premises, in via Maqueda, were contested for irregularities related to the absence of the required concession for the occupation of public land.
Undeclared workers, lack of safety training, lack of medical check-ups and poor hygiene and health practices were the violations detected in two other establishments in the historic center, one of which also led to the suspension of business activity.
The Carabinieri also reported two people at liberty, owners of a business that had already been subjected to administrative seizure and deemed jointly responsible for violating the seals and poor food preservation. The premises were seized under criminal law.
Administrative fines of almost 60.000 euros were also imposed in the context of the service.
