I Carabinieri of the Belmonte Mezzagno Station they have carried out the notification of thenotice of conclusion of investigations, issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Termini Imerese, against two men aged 57 and 53, both originally from the province, accused of illicit waste management, construction of an illegal landfill e abandoned material fires.
According to what was reconstructed by the investigators, between August and December 2024 the two suspects would have put into action a real illicit waste disposal system, operating without any authorizationThe contested activities would include: illegal collection, transport and storage of special waste, among which bricks, tiles, corrugated plastic and plasterboard panels, coming from active construction sites in the area and in the capital.
The investigations have allowed us to ascertain that the waste materials, once loaded onto two trucks, they were transported to aisolated area of Belmonte Mezzagno, where – on several occasions – they would have been abandoned in a valley underneath the roadbed and subsequently set on fire. A practice that would have generated serious environmental risks, in addition to obvious problems of urban decorum. At the disposal of Public minister, the Carabinieri also carried out the preventive seizure of the two trucks, considered to be functional instruments in the alleged illegal activity. The entire investigative reconstruction will now be submitted to the Prosecutor's Office for evaluation, which will decide whether to send the suspects to trial.
