Violence and threats to his wife: a 66-year-old armed man arrested in Balestrate.

The Carabinieri of the Balestrate Station, under the coordination of the Department of Gender Violence and Protection of Vulnerable Victims of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Palermo, they arrested a 66 year old man on charges of mistreatment and injury towards the wife. The intervention was possible thanks to the courage of the victim and the application of the recent "Red Code" regulations which allow for arrest in "deferred flagrante".

The escalation of violence reached its peak when, after yet another argument, the husband attacked the woman with kicks and blows, causing her injuries and bruises that will heal in seven days. Threatened with death and fearing for one's life, the victim managed to escape from the house and ask for help from the Carabinieri, reporting that she had suffered years of abuse and had lived in a continuous climate of domestic terror and total submission, in fact, the husband also had full economic control of the family, keeping all the payment cards with him. The victim also informed the guardians of the law that she had registered, con her cell phone and without her husband's knowledge, an audio recording of the latest episode of violence.

Although forced to leave the cell phone behind during the escape, the soldiers immediately went to the couple's home to recover the device but, once they arrived on site, they discovered a situation of grave danger.

The man, still at home, had two legally owned and already loaded pistols, ready to fire. One resting on a shelf in the bedroom closet and the other hidden under the cushion of the sofa located at the entrance to the house. To protect the woman's safety, the military immediately withdrew the weapons as a precaution and recovered the device, acquiring the precious audio recording.

Given the gravity of the facts and the evidence collected, the arrest was made in deferred flagrante delicto, a mechanism introduced by the "Code Red" which allows for the arrest even some time after the commission of the crime when subsequent investigations confirm the violence. The man was then transferred to prison.

The Preliminary Investigations Judge of the Court of Palermo validated the arrest, ordering the 66-year-old to be held in prison, recognizing the validity of the charges and the need to protect the victim from further danger.
