The Carabinieri of the NAS of Palermo, as part of the monthly strategy of combating crimes committed in the hospitality, hotel and restaurant sector, ordered at a national level by the Carabinieri Command for Health Protection, have carried out checks on tourist-accommodation facilities in the Sicilian capital, aimed at verify the hygienic, sanitary, structural and authorization conditions, As well as the compliance with health and hygiene standards in the preservation and administration of food and beverages.
The most frequent irregularities they concerned the lack of the required registrations for the start of activities, hygienic-sanitary and structural deficiencies, inadequate signs, failure to apply company self-control procedures, failure to apply procedures relating to food traceability and the arbitrary expansion of the premises and availability of beds.
In total they were subjected to administrative seizure of three accommodation facilities worth approximately three million Euros, which were found to be completely abusive since without authorization.
In one case, the military has an apparent B&B in the historic center of Palermo discovered and subjected to administrative seizure, that in reality it concealed a real hotel, with significant reception capacity, as it is equipped with twenty-two rooms and approximately one hundred beds to be organized according to the guests' needs.
As part of the same checks, they were also subjected to seizure of approximately sixty kilograms of various foods, of the value of about 1.500,00 Euro, found in poor condition and without food traceability and administrative sanctions were imposed for about 15.000,00 Euro.
