The theft was foiled by an off-duty Carabinieri marshal and a female police inspector. The motorcycle was returned to its owner.

Palermo, a 16-year-old was arrested for attempting to steal a motorcycle from a supermarket, while a 25-year-old was charged.

Last Friday, late afternoon, an attempted motorcycle theft in the parking lot of a supermarket on Via Lanza di Scalea was unsuccessful for a Palermo couple, aged 16 and 25, already known to the police.

The suspects, who arrived on an electric bicycle, were spotted by a Carabinieri Marshal on duty at the Palermo Provincial Command and a State Police Inspector from the city Police Headquarters, while they were walking among the parked vehicles. The husband and wife, off duty, were leaving the supermarket where they had gone to do their shopping.

Law enforcement officers saw the two individuals approaching the motorcycle, breaking its steering lock, and attempting to escape, but were immediately stopped.

During the identification process, the adult, in an attempt to escape detection, pushed the Marshal to the ground and, taking advantage of the moment, rode away from the parking lot on his bicycle, leaving his accomplice on foot.

The 16-year-old was arrested and, by order of the judicial authorities, transferred to the "Malaspina" juvenile detention center, while the 25-year-old was reported at large for attempted theft and resisting a public official.

The motorcycle, although partially damaged, was immediately returned to its rightful owner.
