Caivano: scams against the elderly, Carabinieri and Prosecutor's Office take action against 15 people

On December 3, as part of an investigation directed by this Public Prosecutor's Office, the Carabinieri of the Caivano company executed a precautionary custody order – 8 in prison, 4 under house arrest and 3 under the obligation to remain in their homes - towards 15 people all resident in the north of Naples.

The investigations, directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples North and conducted by the Carabinieri of the Caivano company, have allowed the collection of various pieces of evidence against those arrested, in relation to the commission of the crimes of criminal association aimed at committing robberies, extortions and frauds against the elderly.

In particular, the suspects allegedly committed multiple scams during 2024 to the detriment of the elderly throughout Italy and in the area north of Naples.

The investigative activities, carried out also with the help of interception and telematic activities, as well as through the visualization and analysis of images extracted from video surveillance systems, have allowed:

• to go back to a organized and top-down structure, branched out throughout northern Italy, with ample availability of means, cash and with its command centre in the north of Naples;
• to outline a well-hierarchized criminal structure identifying the tasks and responsibilities of promoters, switchboard operators, procurers and business travellers;

• certify the existence of a defined remuneration system among the members, based on the percentage division of illicit proceeds and the reinvestment of part of the proceeds in "means" and "resources" necessary to guarantee the continuation of criminal conduct for a turnover of around one million euros per month.
• FINDING the employment of 3 minors (reported to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office and not the recipients of today's provision) during the criminal activities.

During the investigation phases of this Prosecutor's Office, thanks to the valuable contribution of the Carabinieri, it was possible to prevent numerous scams, nipping 30 attempts in the bud and allowing the arrest of several criminals in the act and the recovery of the related stolen goods, For a total of about 200 thousand euros between cash and gold and precious jewelry.
