Naples, Camorra: clash between two criminal organizations culminated with the killing of Antimo Giarnieri, 9 people arrested yesterday
Yesterday morning, in Casoria and Afragola, soldiers from the Investigative Unit of the Castello di Cisterna Group (NA) executed a precautionary prison measure order, issued by the GIP of the Court of Naples - at the request of the local Anti-Mafia District Directorate, against 9 individuals (of which 2 already detained in prison and 1 under house arrest) held responsible, to varying degrees, for association aimed at drug trafficking, possession for the purpose of dealing and extortion.
In particular, the investigations, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Naples and conducted by the department operating from July 2020 to February 2021, also with the help of wiretapping activities, have made it possible to ascertain:
- the operation of two different criminal organizations, in conflict with each other for hegemony over the territory of the municipality of Casoria, in the control of the management of drug trafficking and the monitoring of the "drug dealing areas"; this conflict, recorded in mutual shootings, culminated, in July 2020, with the killing of Antimo Giarnieri, mistakenly shot due to mistaken identity and with the wounding of another individual, for which the perpetrator was arrested on 01 June 2021;
- both the supply of drugs (cocaine, hashish, marijuana and amphetamine mixtures) to various drug dealing locations, and the retail sale of the doses, including home deliveries by the two groups;
- the commission of certain extortions, both attempted and actual, committed against drug buyers, with the aim of recovering the credits for unpaid doses.
During the investigations it was also highlighted that one of the gangs had ties with individuals close to the “Barbato” group, an offshoot of the “Moccia” clan, a historically dominant group in the hinterland of the municipalities north of Naples.
