Tourism and economic diplomacy: at the Mediterranean Tourism Exchange, Maria Tripodi reiterates the Government's support for businesses in the sector.

Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Maria Tripodi participated in the opening day of the 28th edition of the Mediterranean Tourism Exchange in Naples. During his speech, he underlined the strategic importance of tourism for the Italian economy and the role of diplomacy in promotion of the sector at an international level.

Yesterday, Thursday 13 March, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Maria Tripodi participated in the XXVIII edition of the Mediterranean Tourism Exchange, organized by Federalberghi Terme.

"Tourism is one of the pillars of the Italian economy, not only for its weight in terms of GDP and employment, but also for the key role it plays in promoting the image of our country in the world” Tripodi said.

"Through growth diplomacy, The Farnesina supports the sector with concrete projects aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of our companies and protecting Made in Italy on international markets, promoting the attraction of investments, employment and promoting a sustainable and innovative development model” added the Undersecretary.  

According to the latest data released by ENIT, in 2024 tourism contributed 10,8% of GDP and 13% of employment in Italy, with a growth projection for the years to come also thanks to the commitment of the Government and the action of our diplomatic-consular network and the Italian Cultural Institutes, in synergy with the trade associations. On the sidelines, The Undersecretary, accompanied by the Secretary General of the Consular Corps of Naples Mariano Bruno, visited the various exhibition stands and spoke with the operators.
