Giugliano in Campania: a heavy blow to the Mallardo clan, precautionary measures issued for 25 people investigated for political-mafia electoral exchange

By delegation of the District Attorney of Naples, it is hereby communicated that the ROS of the Carabinieri, supported by the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Naples, has executed a precautionary order issued by the GIP of the Court of Naples, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, against 25 people (of which 20 are under prison custody, 5 under house arrest) seriously suspected, to varying degrees, of crimes of mafia-type association, political-mafia electoral exchange, as well as extortion, attempted extortion, usury, fraudulent transfer of assets, corruption and other, crimes aggravated as they were allegedly committed using mafia methods and with the aim of facilitating the activities of the Camorra clan called "Mallardo", operating in the territory of Giugliano in Campania and surrounding areas.

In particular, the illicit activities would have been carried out by the suspects also to allocate the proceeds to feed the "common fund" of the criminal organization, managed for the support of the affiliates, even if detained, and their families; furthermore, the clan would also have intervened in various disputes between private individuals in disagreement with each other and would have influenced the activity of the municipal administration, intervening in the electoral campaign for the municipal elections of Giugliano in Campania in September 2020.

The GIP also issued a decree of preventive seizure of various assets (including financial relationships, lands, buildings, companies and/or corporations) for several million euros.
