Naples and Potenza: three arrests for attempted extortion using mafia methods.
During the morning of today, September 29, 2025, in the province of Naples and Potenza, the Carabinieri of the Caserta Company have carried out aorder for the application of the personal precautionary measure of prison custody, issued by the GIP of the Court of Naples, at the request of the local Anti-Mafia District Directorate, against 3 people (a 54-year-old, a 29-year-old and a 22-year-old), already known to the police, held responsible for attempted extortion, in complicity, aggravated by mafia methods.
The investigation, started in July 2025 by the Carabinieri of the San Nicola La Strada (CE) station, has shed light on a extortion attempt carried out by the three suspects against the owner of a company producing, importing and distributing slot machines.
According to the reconstruction, the three suspects, presenting themselves as exponents of local organized crime, they would threatened, even implicitly and with typically mafia-like methods, a business agent and collaborator of the aforementioned company, during a meeting which took place in Cardito (NA).
In that circumstance, the victim was allegedly asked for an extortion sum of 1.500 euros, to be paid in three annual installments (Christmas, Easter and August), plus an additional 3.000 euros, equal to half of the sum of 6.000 euros that he should have received in return from the owner of a bar, since it had previously been advanced to allow the latter to renovate the premises.
The complaint presented by the police to the Carabinieri of San Nicola La Strada was decisive, which started the investigations coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Naples.
The subsequent follow-up activities allowed us to reconstruct the dynamics of the criminal episode through the questioning of people informed about the facts, the acquisition of images from public video surveillance, installed near the meeting place, and the analysis of telephone cells, which allowed us to fully identify the alleged perpetrators.
