Ischia, a Christmas Eve stained with blood. The Carabinieri arrest a 46-year-old for gender violence
It is two hours before Christmas and the Carabinieri patrol car from the Forio di Ischia station is driving through the streets of the island town. Suddenly, from an avenue, a woman emerges in an evident state of agitation. She is staggering and injured, and when she sees the Carabinieri she screams for help.
The soldiers help the woman - she is 42 years old - who is bleeding from her eyebrow. She has a large bruise on her now swollen cheekbone and on her bleeding hand there is a cut.
The woman is scared and mutters a few disconnected sentences, but from the few words it is clear that she has just been attacked by her partner. The attack took place at home and it is not the first time even if she had never reported it.
The Carabinieri contacted 118 and, once the paramedics took care of the woman, they decided to reach the house.
The entrance door is open, the Carabinieri enter.
In the living room there is a man, he is 46 years old and he is sitting silently on a chair while the TV is on and showing a Christmas movie.
The apartment perfectly describes the tragedy that just occurred.
Broken chairs, damaged furniture and bloodstains on the floor break the silence that reminds us of the typical calm after the storm.
There's also a broken beer bottle on the kitchen floor and the remote control for that TV is covered in blood.
The Carabinieri stop the man who abruptly interrupts that state of meditation making it difficult to arrest.
The situation returns to normal and this allows us to reconstruct the abuse and aggression that the woman suffered.
The two have been living together for 10 years and for some time the woman has been offended and sometimes beaten. She has decided not to respond to his provocations and believes she can resist his outbursts of anger.
Today is the epilogue of a love story that could have ended in tragedy. He begins to offend her and she decides to leave. She puts on her coat and opens the door but he grabs her and brings her back into the house. He grabs her by the neck, pushes her to the fridge, slaps, punches and in the meantime grabs the shard of a broken bottle.
“I’ll cut off your head today!” She doesn’t give up, she doesn’t surrender and manages to escape. Now the man is in prison at the disposal of the judicial authorities while the woman, visited by the doctors of the Lacco Ameno hospital, fortunately he will only have a few days left and perhaps he will be able to get his life back on track
