The traditional extraordinary evening of the Teatro alla Scala will take place on Saturday 22 January Milano in favor of the Francesca Rava NPH Italia Onlus Foundation. Exceptionally, a performance of the film was reserved for the Foundation The bayadere, a title that inaugurated the 2021-2022 Season of Balletto alla Scala: an important and prestigious ballet, with the exciting choreography and direction of the great Nureyev, in a new production, with sets and costumes designed by Luisa Spinatelli, for the Corps of Scaliger dance; Kevin Rhodes on the podium conducting the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra. The entire proceeds will be donated to the Saint Damien hospital, the only pediatric hospital in very poor Haiti, which assists 80.000 children a year, an excellent structure created and supported by the Francesca Rava Foundation. Heartfelt thanks to Intesa Sanpaolo, Samsung, Cristan Trio and the Grana Padano Protection Consortium for their support of the project. Thanks also to the media partners Corriere della Sera and Clear Channel. The companies friends of the Foundation will also participate in the Extraordinary Evening with their guests, the volunteers and godmothers Martina Colombari and Paola Turci, some influencers and friends of the Foundation and the volunteer doctors of the hospitals twinned with Saint Damien. Also very important was the presence of Jacqueline Gautier, medical director of the Saint Damien hospital, who arrived from Haiti as ambassador of all the children cared for and welcomed by the large NPH family. January 12 marks the anniversary of the terrible earthquake that destroyed Haiti in 2010, causing 230.000 deaths, 300.000 injuries and 1 million displaced people. Saint Damien was a reference center for international relief efforts, a base for the Civil Protection and the Navy with the aircraft carrier Cavour. Haiti, still today, is in full emergency. Adding to an already highly compromised scenario was the Covid-19 pandemic and another earthquake that struck the island last August 14, also followed by a tropical storm. Covid is raging in the shortage of oxygen for intensive care and vaccines, the country is gripped by the terror of the gangs responsible for kidnappings and shootings, the political and social chaos saw the assassination of President Moise last July and an attack on Prime Minister on January 2, inflation persists and millions of people are increasingly poor and suffering from hunger and thirst. Once again, Saint Damien is a point of reference for the health emergency and a vital center of empowerment for Haitian doctors with training from Italy, now remotely, in collaboration with excellent Italian hospitals. Around 1.000 children were tested, of which 150 were hospitalized in the specially set up covid ward, and it is a vaccination center with a campaign that began in June 2021. Saint Damien is also equipped with the only Cancer Center on the island, a pediatric surgery department, intensive care and Covid, Maternity and Neonatology department and a malnutrition department, created thanks to the support of the Grana Padano Consortium alongside the Foundation also for help in raising awareness for correct nutrition with a view to achieving Objective 3 UN SD Goals, Health and well-being for all and for all ages. The hospital self-produces the medical oxygen it needs but it is not enough.
