Traced like a light sign on a white background, the number 26 indicates not only the date of a great event that Italy is giving to the world in the name of Sport, but also the year of the first Olympics and Paralympics entirely inspired by the criteria of 'Agenda 2020 and the New Norm. That is, the set of values and norms with which the Olympic movement has placed their economic, environmental and social sustainability at the center of the planning and implementation of the Games, as well as the legacy of an infrastructural and cultural heritage for future generations.

The objective of these Olympics and Paralympics - a unique opportunity for development for the country after the painful ordeal of the pandemic - is to ignite the passion of Italians through the diffusion of the values of sport. And, together, renew the world's passion for Italy, its territories, its excellence. To do this, the organizing committee aims to involve different generations and the whole country, immediately. The presentation of the Emblems therefore becomes the first, significant step in a collective adventure that will last five years: the fascinating journey towards the Games.

With “Futura”, the Foundation Milano Cortina 2026 and the IOC wanted to give an emblematic form to the constituent elements that inspire the Italian Winter Games (economic, social and environmental sustainability, inclusion and innovation). The emotionally charged video in which Deborah Compagnoni, legend of our alpine skiing, three-time Olympic champion, reveals the winning logo, places emphasis on the delicate balance of our planet, underlining how every single small gesture on the part of each of us , can help preserve it.

During the press conference, the Paralympic emblem was also presented Milano Cortina, which constitutes the natural evolution of “Futura”, with white becoming multicoloured, recalling the three colors (blue, red and green) that characterize the Agitos. A powerful symbolism that takes up the central core of the Paralympic message, focused on respect for individual differences and the principle of equality. “Futura” thus becomes a transparent sign that is filled with all the colors of the Aurora Borealis, a very rare phenomenon in our latitudes, captured in the sky above Cortina. A symbolic image that reveals the goal of a world without discrimination and barriers, united under one sky.

The President of the IOC Coordination Commission for Milano Cortina 2026, Sari Essayah, congratulated the new emblem: “Influenced by the themes of sport, solidarity and sustainability, the modern and dynamic design of “Futura” reflects the fundamental values of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The strategy of Milano Cortina 2026 aims to put people at the center of the Games, in the belief that we are all stronger together. The objective is to make Italy fall in love with the Games and the world with Italy: we are certain that this mutual feeling will grow in the next five years."

The President of the International Paralympic Committee, Andrew Parsons, joined in the satisfaction: “Congratulations to Milano Cortina 2026 for creating a beautiful emblem especially for the Paralympic Games, which have diversity at its heart. The use of the colors of the Agitos makes it truly representative and accessible to the entire Paralympic movement. The emblem reflects Italy's natural beauty and the commitment to sustainability that is central to these Games. We are convinced that the Italian Winter Paralympic Games will play a vital role in changing global attitudes towards disability and strengthening the agenda for the inclusion of people with disabilities."

“It will be something not only to support but also to wear and can also lead the way as a graphic format in the future”, the applause of the president of Coni Giovanni Malagò, who had the honor of having the new Undersecretary for Sport present at Palazzo H Valentina Vezzali in what was her first official public appearance after the question time in front of the assembled chambers: "Today is more than an inauguration, this is a historic moment: what was not there yesterday is reality today", she admitted the Olympian, appreciating the logo once unveiled and underlining that 'Futura' "fully represents the Italian style".

Malagò therefore wanted to remember "the old logo created in house brought us luck, just as we are convinced that the logo that will accompany the Olympics will do so, a symbol of passion, ability and tenacity". The CEO of the Foundation, Vincenzo Novari: “The victory was overwhelming, the two logos represent two different ways of representing the Games and the mountains. There is a story and a narrative that is part of what we want to do in these 5 years, and it is consistent with remaining as least invasive as possible. Everyone talks about sustainability but it must not be just a word but a project, economic, environmental and social sustainability. The white logo is the one that best expresses this concept.
This sign traced in the snow is also what can reveal many things to us, what is behind this window, an extraordinary story that I will be happy to work on."

The President of the CIP, Luca Pancalli, wanted to underline that "they will be the most beautiful Olympic Games in history and in which we will all identify. We are not talking about the diversity of a logo but about the variation. The narrative key is beautiful, since white cannot be perceived by visually impaired athletes, we wanted to respect the possibility for them too to recognize themselves in a logo that will accompany them in their memory". The comments of the guests-protagonists of the winning dossier in Lausanne in June 2024 were also enthusiastic.

Starting from the governor of Lombardy Attilio Fontana: "2026 will be a fundamental stage in which we will present the renewed face of Lombardy, Veneto and all of Italy after this difficult situation". For the Municipality of Milano, the Sports Councilor Roberta Guaineri recalled that “the values linked to sport will be promoted not only during the Games but also in these 5 years. This is the legacy that we want to leave to the city", while the mayor of Cortina Gian Pietro Ghedina concluded: "Cortina and the Veneto area are preparing themselves in a great way, with great synergy and team work such as that which has allowed to win the race for the assignment of the Games"
