November 23

Milano, work completed at the Portello Park.

The works for the completion of the Portello Park have been completed, in the fourth and last lot between viale Serra and viale De Gasperi, which with approximately 10 thousand square meters of new greenery brings the overall extension to approximately 73 thousand square meters.
The new lot was inaugurated on November 23rd in the presence ofcouncilor for urban regeneration Giancarlo Tancredi, Marco Carabelli CEO and director of real estate development of Finiper Canova group SpA and landscape architect Andreas Kipar from LAND.

"Greenery understood as one of the main drivers of urban development in the city" – comments thecouncilor Tancredi –”Another intervention, this confirms the logic followed by the Administration, which brings to completion the redevelopment of an unused area, transforming it into a new public park, part of the green system to the west of the city, finally returned to the use of all citizens and townspeople".

"Today the journey that led to the creation of a new city park ends" – states thecouncilor Grandi –”The approximately 73 thousand square meters of this new green lung, between viale Serra and viale De Gasperi, will be flanked by the new green areas, some nearing completion such as the Porta Vittoria park, others, like the Rubattino park or that offormer slaughterhouse, of the Goccia, of the Piazza d'Armi, which will be created in the coming years".

The redevelopment intervention, included in the Portello Integrated Intervention Plan and commissioned by Iper Montebello Spa like the other lots of the Park, in addition to giving new life to the heart area of the neighborhood, gives the territory, the citizens and towns of Milan a further accessible and livable green space.
The project conceived by landscape architects Charles Jencks and Andreas Kipar and developed by LAND Italia, an international landscape consultancy company, completes, in fact, the green lung that extends along viale Serra and viale De Gasperi, with an intervention in continuity also from the point of view perceptive. The Park communicates at height with the city and the surrounding area, towards QT8, the new Portello buildings and the Citylife area.

The new access to the Park integrates with the overall design. The choices of materials and plant essences respect those previously chosen, as do the routes and the network of public spaces which were conceived as an expansion of the existing ones.

The inspiration of the project comes from the astral bodies of the Sun and the Moon and their interactions with the Earth: the name chosen for the new part of the park is in fact that of Moon Garden. The shape of the Park was inspired by the diagram of "Phases of the Moon"of Athanasius Kircher, where the lunar cycle is represented as a double spiral, for both terrestrial hemispheres and where these shapes depict the duration of the moon's visibility in the sky, with its rising and settling.
The uphill spiral route features shaded rest areas with benches. Fifty trees including maples, tulip trees, lindens, mulberries and sophoras alternate with 1.500 square meters of colorful flowerbeds with herbaceous and shrubby plants and groups of rhododendrons.
