At the third edition of the Cortalp festival, space is given to university creativity to enhance the Lombard mountain territory, with an award dedicated to Manlio Armellini.

Milano, Cortalp: the mountain short film festival rewards young videomakers.

Cortalp, an acronym for Alpine short films, is the mountain short film festival now in its third edition and aimed at young designers from national and international universities. The meeting at the Testori Auditorium of Palazzo Lombardia was attended by the regional councilor for Territory and Green Systems Gianluca Comazzi.

Born in 2021 at the School of Design of the Polytechnic of Milano from an idea by Aldo Faleri, professor of Alpine Design, the initiative is organized in collaboration with the Lombardy Region and the CAI, the Italian Alpine Club on International Mountain Day.

CREATIVITY AND TALENT

"Cortalp – he said Comazzi – is an initiative of great value. The creativity and talent of the kids involved contribute to highlighting our mountains, one of the jewels in the crown of the Lombardy region from a landscape and naturalistic point of view".

SAFETY

"Lombardy Region in this legislature – stressed the councillor – has financed more than 100 interventions to secure and mitigate hydrogeological risks in mountain municipalities, for a total amount of over 65 million euros".

Lombardy also includes 7 mountain parks, for a total protected area of approximately 215.000 hectares distributed in the provinces of Brescia, Bergamo, Sondrio, Lecco and Varese.

"Cortalp through the talent of the young students involved – he continued – it therefore offers us never-before-seen glimpses of our mountains, helping us discover the secrets of places we thought we had always known".

"Thanks to the organizers and the many kids – the regional councillor concluded – who every year enthusiastically participate in this splendid event, which is also the occasion to celebrate the International Mountain Day".

MANLIO ARMELLINI AWARD

This event, in addition to a festival of 'short films' on the mountain selected by the Cineteca CAI, includes the prize named in memory of 'Manlio Armellini' patron of the Salone del Mobile in Milano, dedicated to original products by university students. Its aim is to stimulate creativity and awareness on Alpine issues.

HIGHEST FESTIVAL IN THE WORLD

Cortalp wants to go up where the ice is perennial and become the highest Festival in the World, to better observe the climate changes in progress and to be a spokesperson with the collaboration of young video-makers. Its program and its intentions make it, together with the Trento Festival, the most important event entirely dedicated to mountain cinema in Italy in the form of video-design of short films of short duration and entirely made by young designers under 30.

ACCESS TO THE PRESTIGIOUS IAMF

Starting next year, CortAlp Festival will be able to access the prestigious IAMF (International Alliance for Mountain Film), which brings together 20 mountain film festivals around the world and a museum (National Mountain Museum of Turin), representing 16 countries from Europe, Asia and South America. Since its inception, the Cine Mountain Festival has presented more than 700 films representing the best of national and international genre cinema ever.
