Milano: recruitment for the purpose of terrorism, State Police arrests a 19-year-old Kenyan
The State Police carried out the fermo – validated by the GIP at the Court of Milano - towards a 19-year-old Kenyan citizen suspected of recruitment for the purpose of terrorism.
The arrest was the result of a detailed investigation conducted by the DIGOS of Milano – International Anti-Terrorism Section and the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police – Service for the Countering of Extremism and External Terrorism, culminating on the afternoon of Saturday 30 November, when the young woman was stopped at Orio al Serio Airport (BG) while she was about to board a direct flight to Türkiye, country identified as transit point to reach the Middle Eastern war theaters.
The investigative activity, started last October, was born from constant monitoring of radical jihadist environments online, which allowed us to identify an open social profile for video sharing in which, with increasing intensity, radical propaganda video which depicted a woman wearing the niqab, later identified as the young Kenyan woman arrested.
Further investigations carried out by the DIGOS of the Police Headquarters of Milano on the foreign citizen they highlighted how the same, already a guest in a reception community and coming from a difficult family background, was developing a rapid path of ideological-religious radicalization which resulted, in the last period, in the intention to reach Turkey and then settle in areas occupied by jihadist groups. In this regard, the technical activities have returned evidence of several contacts between the young woman and certified telephone users in the Middle East, presumably attributable to individuals who would have facilitated their arrival.
The planning of the arrested woman, who had already repeatedly attempted to contact the Turkish diplomatic representations in Italy, was further accelerated in recent days when, after having consulted flight sites for Turkey several times, she went twice to Malpensa airport (VA) to obtain a one way ticket to Istanbul, succeeding in the late afternoon of November 29 when he purchased a flight departing from Orio al Serio (BG).
In light of this latest finding, the judicial authority issued the arrest warrant against the young woman, executed immediately after she had been stopped by the Milanese police at the Orobic airport, just made the check-in and practically at the moment of loading the baggage.
In this circumstance, the first rapid checks carried out by the DIGOS on the device used by the girl confirmed that the girl – who declared herself muhajirat, “the migrant” – in addition to having matured interest in the use of firearms, was actually in contact with a man in Türkiye who was waiting for her upon arrival.
