“Vivaio Bicocca”: entrusted for 30 years to the University of Milano Bicocca six thousand square meters of urban oasis dedicated to the protection of biodiversity.
Il City of Milano grant for thirty years at the University of Milano Bicocca i approximately six thousand square meters of greenery owned by him between via Roberto Cozzi and via Emilio De Marchi. This is the area of “Bicocca nursery”, Theurban oasis dedicated to the protection of biodiversity built on the university campus in 2020. Already the subject of an agreement in the last three years between Municipality 9 and the Milanese university, the 5.750 square meters with tall trees and entirely fenced are entrusted by the Administration to the University until 2053, as a function of a ecological and sustainable transition path of the Campus and the neighborhood. The six decades, requested from the Municipality by the university itself, are the time necessary for the ecosystem that will have to be created in the area: the duration of the concession, established by a resolution of the Council, was calculated on the biological cycles of the plants that will find its place there.
“The purpose for which the Bicocca University requested the concession – states theCouncilor for Budget and Heritage, Emmanuel Conte – is strategic for the objectives of sustainable development and ecological transition of the city, for the protection of an important green area and to strengthen relations between the academic and research world and the territory. The property of the Municipality will be used for the implementation of educational activities, participation projects open to citizens, scientific research activities in the environmental field and the possibility of use by citizens will be maintained".
“Objectives of the Bicocca Nursery – he underlines Giovanna Iannantuoni, rector of the University of Milano-Bicocca - I'm there protection of urban biodiversity, with the planting of flowers and berry plants to promote pollinating insects and birds, the creation of the urban bio-lake and the establishment of new species, the promotion of more sustainable lifestyles in the citizens and among the students of the University, the development of innovative teaching and research approaches based on the exploration of nature". The Bicocca Nursery was included in the “MUSA – Multilayered Urban Sustainability Action”, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU. Used as a plant storage space by a Municipality concessionaire until 2019, the area was recovered and inaugurated in October 2020.
