Thursday 12th September the Deputy Mayor Loredana Manzi and Councilor Antonio Velluto met with the family of Dr. Laura Manenti to deliver a career commendation.
Dr. Manenti recently obtained a precious prize awarded by the Italian Physical Society for the international publication of the book “The little girl who…explored an atom”.
Dr. Manenti participated remotely via a video call, in which she thanked the Administration sincerely and wanted to underline how, despite the distance, it still feels tied to the territory of Cologno Monzese.
The book, as explained by the author, was inspired by her daughter and describes a little girl who, starting from a dive into a glass of water, becomes smaller and smaller until she reaches the size of an atom, to study the matter that surrounds her. Some copies of the book, in different languages, have been donated to the Biblioteca Civica di Cologno Monzese and are already available for consultation.
“We are proud of citizens of Cologne like Dr. Manenti who, with hard work and sacrifice, has managed to emerge as a leading researcher and teacher abroad – says Deputy Mayor Loredana Manzi – we extend our most sincere congratulations to you and your family for this great achievement and, as anticipated in the video call, we look forward to seeing you in Cologno Monzese for an event with the little ones, because even knowledge of science, especially if explained in a masterly way as in the book, is the basis of culture”.
