MILAN – A violent attack in the heart of the city, just steps from the Duomo and witnessed by dozens of passersby, turned into a complex, swift investigation that led the State Police to arrest a 21-year-old man accused of attempted murder. The incident occurred on the evening of November 25, when a 19-year-old man, also an Egyptian national, was seriously injured by two stab wounds, one to the abdomen and one to the chest, near a well-known fast food restaurant overlooking the Lombardy capital's iconic square.

The dynamics of the aggression

According to investigators' reconstruction, the 19-year-old was approached by his compatriot and struck with two sudden, violent stabs. The stab wounds caused deep, potentially lethal wounds, so much so that the victim was rushed to Fatebenefratelli Hospital, where he underwent immediate life-saving surgery. The investigation: cameras and key testimonies

  • acquisition and analysis of video surveillance images present in the area;
  • hearing of witnesses present in Piazza Duomo at the time of the events;
  • investigations into the background and movements of the environments frequented by the people involved.

The evidence gathered quickly pointed suspicion toward a 21-year-old man with an illegal residence in Italy and already known to law enforcement. According to reconstructions, the attack arose from personal disagreements that had occurred in the previous days, likely stemming from jealousy.

The arrest of the alleged attacker

Investigators' technical investigations allowed them to locate him outside the region: the 21-year-old had taken refuge in the province of Bologna, in Valsamoggia, at his brother's home, in an attempt to evade arrest.

The officers reached the scene and carried out the arrest, bringing the young man to justice.

Validation of arrest and detention

The order was subsequently validated by the investigating judge of the Bologna Court, who ordered the suspect to remain in prison. The 21-year-old is currently being held at the Bologna Prison, awaiting further judicial developments.

An episode that puts the spotlight back on safety in the city center
