Cologno Monzese, the city is ready to welcome refugees from Ukraine to show closeness to the country

Mayor Rocchi: "We are sending a letter to the Ukrainian citizens present in the city to better manage this emergency"

Cologno Monzese, the city is ready to welcome refugees from Ukraine to show closeness to the country.

Even in Cologno Monzese, as throughout the world, these days are being lived feverishly after the serious news coming from Ukraine.

Cologno Monzese is always on the front line to face all daily adversities: in the previous week the attack was launched by Russia with the intention of invading the neighboring country, Ukraine.

Fully supporting Ukraine, the Mayor together with his collaborators is trying to send letters to citizens of Ukrainian origin, in order to deliver to people in need of a new home, hopefully temporary, that the city is ready to host them.

“War is madness that leaves the world worse than it found it.”
Mayor Angelo Rocchi publicly reiterated the words of the Holy Father to condemn the military action that Russia began by invading Ukraine.
“I want to express all my closeness and solidarity and that of the city community to the Ukrainian people who are also well present and rooted in Cologno Monzese – declared Mayor Rocchi –. Precisely for this reason today I have convened an extraordinary council to decide, together with my team, the actions to be taken to fulfill our role because, when it comes to real war refugees, we intend to do our part to the full without any hesitation.
It is also nice to know that many are already making themselves available as doctors, paediatricians, speakers, associations and simple citizens who have contacted me giving their availability - has continued - to assist the small but important Ukrainian community which numbers 385 people in Cologno Monzese and the Municipality is sending a letter to all of them, in anticipation of any arrivals that could occur in the next few days, not only to create a direct line but also to overcome probable language problems that could arise.
Like everyone else, the Municipality is also waiting for clear requests to arrive from the Prefecture to meet our duties but, as happened with Covid - the Mayor recalled - also for this emergency our excellent Civil Protection will act as a point of reference to coordinate all the initiatives that will be necessary given that the news of the arrival of some buses with Ukrainian refugees at the national border is already circulating in these hours and that many people , independently, they are moving to look for their relatives in Poland, Romania and Hungary.
I admit it's almost impossible for me – concluded Rocchi – see how human beings, after the atrocious and painful past of history, continue to make the same mistakes and war, undoubtedly, is the biggest mistake they can still make”.

Although Cologno Monzese is a small city, every step towards Ukraine could be useful in saving more and more lives in this war that has nothing logical.
