A 13 km running route among the beauties of Pavia, in an event that combines competition, memory and passion for sport

The Councilor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing and Fashion of the Lombardy Region, Barbara Mazzali, spoke today in the Council Chamber of the Palazzo Mezzabarba of the Municipality of Pavia, to presentation of the 2025 edition of the 'Corri Battaglia di Pavia', a competitive and non-competitive 13 km running race, scheduled for Sunday 30 March in Pavia.

The Olympic Hearts Project

'Corri Battaglia' is one of the events of 'Cuori Olimpici', the project of the Lombardy Region that will dictate the countdown to the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games of Milano-Cortina 2026. For 10 months, the twelve provinces of Lombardy will be the protagonists of a relay of 12 events that will lead to the discovery of the cultural, sporting and food and wine excellences of the territory. The choice of the Lombardy Region to include the Corri Battaglia di Pavia in this list is confirmation of the organizational quality of the events branded Atl. Mazzali: a journey through history 

"The Battle of Pavia it's not just a race, but a journey through history – declared Mazzali – a bridge between past and future that celebrates the values ​​of sport, memory and community. We are proud that this event is part of the 'Cuori Olimpici' project, our relay of events that is uniting all of Lombardy on the path towards the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games of Milano-Cortina 2026. Councillor Mazzali then addressed “a special thanks to the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, who supported and developed the 'Cuori Olimpici' project, recognizing its ability to involve the entire region in a path towards the Games that is not only sporting, but also historical and territorial. The Olympics – the councilor then recalled – are much more than a competition: they are inclusion, passion, team spirit and the desire to overcome one's limits. It is the same spirit that we will see on March 30 on the streets of Pavia, among athletes and enthusiasts, in an event that combines sport and territory, sustainability and tradition. The race 

The running event is included in the list of many initiatives organised by the Lombard capital for celebrate the 500th anniversary of the famous battle that took place in 1525 between the French troops of King Francis and the army of the Holy Roman Empire of Emperor Charles V. The demonstration, organized by ASD Atletica Cento Torri of Pavia with the approval of Fidal and the Regional Committee of Lombardy and the Provincial Committee of Pavia as well as with the Patronage of the Lombardy Region and the Municipality of Pavia, will take place on a 13 km city route, in competitive and non-competitive mode, the latter open to all, without the obligation of membership and competitive medical certificate, thus giving everyone the opportunity to experience a stimulating day of sport and historical reenactment.

The path

The route of the 'Corri Battaglia' of Pavia is characterised by few curves and this will allow the best equipped to maintain a high pace and speed for almost all of the 13 kilometres on the programme. The start will be near the Castello Visconteo. The athletes will continue towards via Santa Maria alle Pertiche and via Gilardelli and then take a left turn onto the Alzaia Naviglio Pavese. The runners will then reach piazzale San Giuseppe and then the straight stretch of via Umberto Olevano. After 2,5 kilometers the participants will reach Mirabello from where, after skirting the castle of the same name, the march will continue north on via Poligogna.

Another 1.300 meters on a straight and then a curve onto Strada Cantone Tre Miglia.
One kilometre after the birthplace of the famous Zuppa alla Pavese but also of the imprisonment of Francis I following the defeat suffered on the field against Charles V, the runners will turn left and will find the Alzaia del Naviglio Pavese, a road that, for 4 km will lead everyone back to Piazzale San Giuseppe: from here, following the same route taken on the outward journey in the opposite direction, the last kilometre and a half will begin before cutting the finish banner placed in Piazza Castello.

Registration

Le Registrations for the event are open on the website and at Sweet Pavia di Clenzi, strada Nuova n. 2 until March 25, 2025 for the competitive distance. Until bibs run out, it will be possible to register only for the non-competitive event also on Saturday 29 March from 15pm to 18pm and Sunday 30 March from 7.30am to 9.00am in the gardens of the Castello Visconteo.
