Lombard wines take centre stage in New York: Gambero Rosso's masterclass fascinates the USA
Lombardy conquers New York with an exclusive Gambero Rosso masterclass dedicated to its excellent wines. The event, held at the Metropolitan Pavilion, involved industry experts and sommeliers in a sensory journey among the best Lombard labels, projecting the region towards the Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina 2026.
Lombardy has conquered New York with a prestigious event dedicated to its excellent wines. In fact, the Metropolitan Pavilion hosted an exclusive masterclass, organized by Gambero Rosso, which saw the Region as the protagonist of a sensory journey among its best labels. Also present was the Consul General of Italy in New York, Fabrizio Di Michele.
The initiative brought together industry experts, sommeliers and international operators to delve deeper into the Lombard winemaking tradition and discover the peculiarities of its territories. From the hills of Oltrepò Pavese to the shores of Lake Garda, passing through Valtellina and Franciacorta, Lambrusco Mantovano and Moscato di Scanzo, the selection of wines highlighted the variety and quality of regional production.
Councilor Beduschi: Olympic emotions for a large and qualified audience
"Great satisfaction and success – said theCouncilor Beduschi - in the 'Gambero Rosso' masterclass. We were in New York to thrill a qualified audience, buyers, many people from the world of wine who were able to appreciate our wines and the particularities of our productions. Really so much enthusiasm and, above all, so many people who promised to come, in some cases to return, on the Olympic occasion of Milano-Cortina 2026, looking for a Lombard emotion".
A highlight of the day was the presentation of the wineries awarded with the prestigious Tre Bicchieri del Gambero Rosso, who had the opportunity to tell their stories and the unique characteristics of their wines. Some companies presented their labels through dedicated stations, while others were the protagonists of an exclusive tasting counter entirely dedicated to Lombardy.
Riccardo Binda: Springboard to Conquer the US Market
"This - he has declared Riccardo Binda, director of the Oltrepò Pavese Wine Consortium - It is a great opportunity for two reasons. The first is that the territories must always be contextualized within their region of belonging and the second is that it is a viaticum towards an important moment for all of us Lombards, which are the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina. As Oltrepò we are very happy with the tasting with the excellences of our territory through which we hope to bring Oltrepò back where it deserves in the United States and in the world".
Juri Pagani: thanks to the Lombardy Region, New York is the ideal city for wines and DOP, IGP del Garda
"Thanks to Lombardy Region - he stressed Juri Pagani, director of the Valtènesi Consortium - we brought the lightness of Garda to this magnificent city, New York, which is the result of contamination and experimentation. And our wines bring the contamination that Lake Garda has always had and, therefore, for us it is a great opportunity because our wines are gastronomic. New York is the city where you can eat the most, where you can have the most fun, where you can share the most. Because the beauty of the wines of Garda, of Valtènesi but also of all the Lombard ones, is sharing, is the use, also, of our DOP and IGP such as Grana Padano, Provolone Valpadana DOP and Gorgonzola and, therefore, here it was fantastic".
Giuseppe Carrus: Lombardy's biodiversity is a real success
"We do many masterclasses - he recalled Giuseppe Carrus, journalist of Gambero Rosso - every time we come to New York. This was my first time hosting a masterclass dedicated only to the wines of Lombardy. and it was incredible for me too, who tastes hundreds of wines every year, to understand how in a region there is a concentration of native vines, of different suns and climates and, therefore, evidently, also of different 'noses', 'palates' and 'colours'”. “This - he added - it is the great biodiversity, which is certainly valid for all of Italy, but which here is specific to a region like Lombardy which, perhaps, in the collective imagination is associated with other things and aspects, but we have seen how wine, and therefore agriculture, are important".
L'the event therefore represented an important showcase for Lombard wine, consolidating its presence on international markets and strengthening ties with the US wine sector. The enthusiastic participation of the public and professionals confirmed the growing interest in the region's wine production, which continues to stand out for its quality.
