Liguria: 17 students winners of the “Hackathon to Brussels” challenge visit the European Parliament
They flew to the capital of the EU 17 students winners of the challenge “Hackathon in Brussels“, a training initiative promoted by the Liguria Region which took place on 7 and 8 December in the Liceti di Rapallo and Polo Tecnologico Imperiese high schools: the aim of the project is promote the themes of a citizens' Europe and active participation among young people.
The winning students presented innovative design ideas for the regeneration of the territory and the transformation of local public spaces. The proposals, inspired by the principles of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) – sustainability, inclusion and beauty – aim to make the more active, inclusive and attractive local communities for tourists too.
During the educational trip, the students took part, among other activities, in the regional event “NEB4Young: Empowering young people to rethink creatively the territory based on NEB principles” organized at European Parliament from the Brussels Office of the Region. An opportunity to present their innovative projects dedicated to the territories in which they live, in the presence of European representatives. A great opportunity to personal growth on European policy issues, but also a unique opportunity to demonstrate how young people can contribute, with creativity and commitment, to the future of Liguria and Europe.
“This is a very significant initiative for us – declared the Councillor for Schools and Youth Policies Simona Ferro – because it unites students from different institutes and different parts of Liguria, who worked together in heterogeneous groups to think about the future of our territories and who were able to present the results of their work to the representatives of the European institutions. The intention is therefore to continue to involve young people and schools in similar growth paths, also through future initiatives dedicated to raising awareness of the principles of sustainability and culture as a driver of local development”.
