Liguria, public housing: Councilor Marco Scajola heard by the Chamber of Deputies

The regional councilor Marco Scajola, acting as Deputy Coordinator of the Building Commission of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, was heard today at the House of Representatives of VIII Commission for Environment, Territory and Public WorksAt the heart of the meeting, the opinion of the Regions in the context of the examination of some legislative proposals relating to thepublic residential building (Erp) and recovery of the building heritage.

“The Regions always welcome parliamentary initiatives that place the issue of housing and the housing emergency at the centre – comments Councilor ScajoThe requests are constantly increasing: families, elderly people, single-parent families, and people with disabilities are turning to the former IACP (Instituti Autononomi Case Popolari), in our case the Arte, in the hope of obtaining housing.

I reminded the parliamentarians that we are doing a great deal of work in the local communities, often with regional resources, to provide rapid and concrete responses to a need that affects the most intimate sphere of citizens. However, it is essential that the State accompany this commitment with a stable economic and financial planning, capable of guaranteeing medium and long-term interventions.

The Regions will continue to do their part, but a concrete and lasting support from the GovernmentIn the Commission I reiterated the constitutional principle, established by theArticle 117, which assigns to the Regions the expertise on the methods of access to public housing, a prerogative that must be respected and valued".

“We have asked for a clear and comprehensive law to be approved for exempt former IACP members from paying IMU – continues the councilor – so as to guarantee a uniform tax treatment of properties intended for so-called public housing, without financial burdens and overcoming the interpretative differences between the various local authorities.

Our commitment as Regions continues with the utmost attention and determination. We hope that parliamentary acts can support our political and administrative action, to jointly tackle a problem that, if not addressed decisively, risks prolonging itself over time, generating serious social criticalities".

“Finally, we reiterate – concludes Scajola – the need for the issue of blameless arrears become the object of a national law, with resources programmed each year in the budget law and not through one-off measures, which create difficulties and do not allow the territories to plan concrete and lasting interventions for the benefit of citizens".
