Genoa, Bucci: "The sea is the future. Liguria must look to the world and invest in young people."

The President of the Liguria Region, Marco Bucci, inaugurates Genoa Shipping Week 2025 at the Porto Antico in Genoa and announces a major port development project of three million square meters to strengthen Liguria's strategic role in the Mediterranean.

Genoa, Bucci: "The sea is the future. Liguria must look to the world and invest in young people."

“Liguria has built its history looking to the seaThe ports of Genoa, Savona, La Spezia, and Imperia have been at the heart of economic growth and international trade for centuries. This is why there is no development without infrastructure. Today, we continue this tradition with a long-term vision. The new major port project in Genoa will restore three million square meters of sea to the city: two million square meters dedicated to ship maneuvering and mooring, and one million square meters transformed into land-based port space.

This is an investment that requires expertise and daily innovation, but it will further strengthen Liguria and Italy's strategic role in the Mediterranean. The Blue Economy currently represents approximately 16% of the national GDP and has the potential to grow by up to 25%. Therefore, we must seize the opportunity by creating development, jobs, and quality.

Genova, Bucci: “Il mare è il futuro. La Liguria deve guardare al mondo e investire nei giovani”

Genoa must open up to the world. In recent years, an increasing number of young people have chosen to study and work here, thanks to an excellent university, lower-than-average costs, and a high quality of life. Now is the time to build new opportunities and more student populations together. I therefore say to young people that the sea is the future. Take up this challenge, because the world to come is in your hands.

These are the words of the President of the Liguria Region, Marco Bucci, who intervened during the Opening day of Genoa Shipping Week 2025 al Old Port of Genoa.
