Udine: State Police in the field for the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse.
The Udine State Police is back in the field for the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse, especially to shed light on and combat a very dangerous phenomenon for public safety and road safety: driving under the influence of drugs.
The Trieste Highway Police Department has arranged a control system that has seen several patrols from different Provinces in action, supported by an analysis laboratory, a real forensic laboratory, capable of analyzing the biological fluids of the drivers checked and establishing with scientific precision whether these contained psycho-active, psychotropic or narcotic substances.
After being checked with breathalyzers, the drivers were subjected to saliva sampling, the sample of which was analyzed both using precursor instruments and using a high-diagnostic instrument that uses the LC-Massa technique, which is a second-level laboratory test.
The screening allows to ascertain as many as 5 active principles: opiates, cannabinoids, cocaine, amphetamines and benzodiazepines.
In case of positive results, drivers are also subjected to a medical examination to establish the behavioral alteration as a reflection of the intake of narcotic substances.
The results are as follows:
– 33 drivers checked with salivary precursors
– 3 of these had cannabinoids in their saliva
– 2 of these were found to be in a state of alteration and therefore reported to the Judicial Authority for the commission of the crime of driving under the influence of narcotic substances art. 187 cds
– 1 vehicle seized for confiscation
– 3 driving licences revoked
– 30 points/license deducted
The police operation involved 4 patrols of the Highway Police and medical personnel and laboratory technicians made available by the Alto Adriatico Motorway Company.
A driver who did not stop at the checkpoint during the control device was chased and stopped by a patrol along the A/4 motorway between Udine and Palmanova.
The reason for the escape was not because he was driving after having used drugs or alcohol, but because he was driving without a driving license because he had never obtained one.
For this reason he was fined €5.100 and the vehicle was placed under administrative seizure.
