San Mauro Pascoli: A woman was attacked while running on a trail. A 26-year-old Gambian man was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault.
The Carabinieri of the Cesenatico Company have arrested a 26-year-old Gambian citizen, considered presumed responsible for the crimes of aggravated sexual assault e personal injury against a woman.
The episode occurred in the late morning of 5th December, along a cycle/pedestrian path in a peripheral and isolated area of San Mauro Pascoli.
The victim was running when the man, hidden in the vegetation, he would have blocked her, dragged her to a secluded spot and, despite the woman's desperate attempt to defend herself, he would have forced to suffer the abuse.
During the fight, the woman managed to injure her attacker on the hand, a factor that would prove decisive in the following hours.
In shock, the victim managed to call the 112, allowing the Carabinieri Operations Centre to immediately activate the search.
The Carabinieri and paramedics arrived within minutes: the woman was rescued and transferred to the Cesena buffaloes, where she was given a prognosis of several days.
Patrols quickly combed the surrounding rural areas, supported by a helicopter of the Carabinieri Unit of Forlì.
Thanks to the description of the man provided by the victim – who reported the wound to his hand – the military identified the alleged attacker hidden in a shed about a kilometer from the area of the attack.
The 26-year-old is also suspected of having committed, shortly before, groping against another woman, who had reported the incident to the Carabinieri Station.
The man was arrested and, by order of the Deputy Public Prosecutor of Forlì, transferred to the Prison House awaiting the validation hearing.
