Report on the operational activity in 2024 of the Forlì-Cesena Forestry Carabinieri Group, together with that of the Casentinesi Forests National Park Carabinieri Department

Forlì-Cesena: Activities of the Carabinieri Forestry Group, a year at the service of nature

Il Carabinieri Forestale Group (with jurisdiction over the provinces of Forlì-Cesena and Rimini), operates with particular attention to the Forlì area through 12 dependent Departments, consisting of the Environmental, Agri-food and Forestry Police Investigation Unit (NIPAAF), the CITES Unit, as well as 10 additional Carabinieri Forestry Units located in the municipalities of Bagno di R., Castrocaro, Cesena, Forlì, Mercato S., Predappio, Sarsina, S. Sofia, Tredozio and Verghereto.

This is supported by the activity carried out by Carabinieri Department of the Casentino Forests National Park, competent in the area of ​​the Park also falling within the province of Forlì-Cesena.

The activity conducted throughout the year 2024 confirmed a constant action of protection of natural heritage e combating environmental violations. Several phenomena of aggression to the environmental and naturalistic “heritage” have been intercepted, promptly repressed by all the aforementioned Departments.

In addition to the above-mentioned activities to combat environmental crimes, a fundamental activity of prevention, supported by moments of closeness and support to the community, reserving the necessary attention to the territory. In particular, measures have been implemented controls in the building and hunting sectors, ascertaining and sanctioning numerous waste abandonments e guaranteeing la wildlife protection and opposed to animal abuse.

At the same time, the correct use of forests and timber trade (EUTR) was verified, without ever neglecting the checks on river auctions aimed at controlling the minimum vital flow.

Particular attention has been paid to the national campaign regarding the correct use of pesticides in agriculture, as well as within EUROPOL to monitor the trafficking of pets, just as the commitment put in place by all the dependent Departments during the flood events which have tormented the province of Forlì-Cesena.

Monitoring of cases of still stands out African swine fever (with negative results), as well as that relating to large carnivores, with particular attention to the presence of the wolf. Constant controls on tourist influxes and support for emergency interventions for the search for lost and missing persons are also being carried out.

Overall, all Forestry Departments have made the maximum possible effort, ensuring the execution of targeted Checks (in terms preventive and repressive) in relation to the subjects characterising the forestry specialty, not exempting itself from checks also relating to sectors not typically assigned, but which often show repercussions, albeit indirect, on environmental issues understood on a broad spectrum.

Finally, it is important to highlight the increasingly frequent use of technological instrumentation, such as camera traps, GPS trackers and APR (Remotely Piloted Aircraft), through which it was also possible to acquire useful elements of investigative relevance.

This is the numerical manifestation of the aforementioned 2024 activity in which 23.239 checks were carried out, controlled 7.168 Guests it's about 1800 vehicles. From these checks the following emerged:

  • over 1.000 administrative offenses (against 880 people fined), for a total amount of €816.000, together with 43 administrative seizures carried out;
  • over 320 crime news, with simultaneous referral to the Judicial Authority of 328 Guests, executed 75 seizures e 12 searches. In this context, the following have been applied: Prescription sanctions for a total amount of over €158.000.
